THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOZAMBIQUE, DANIEL CHAPO, IS ALREADY IN DAR ES SALAAM TO OPEN TANZANIA’S LARGEST TRADE FAIR
The President of the Republic, Daniel Francisco Chapo, is already in Dar es Salaam, in the United Republic of Tanzania, to attend, as Guest of Honour, the official opening ceremony of the 50th edition of the Dar es Salaam International Fair (Saba Saba). According to the Secretary of State for Trade, António Grispos, this visit reflects the high level of historical, political, economic and trade relations between Mozambique and Tanzania and opens up new prospects for deepening business cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking on Thursday in Dar Es Salaam during the preview of the President’s visit, the Secretary of State for Trade stated that the highlight of the Mozambican Head of State’s visit will be his participation in the official opening ceremony of Tanzania’s largest trade fair, at the invitation of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
‘The President of the Republic has been invited by his counterpart, Her Excellency President Samia Suluhu, to officially open this international fair tomorrow,’ said António Grispos.
According to the minister, the President of the Republic’s presence at “Saba Saba” is a recognition of the quality of the bilateral relations between Mozambique and Tanzania, built up over decades of political, economic and social cooperation.
‘It is no coincidence that the President of the Republic is to open the fair. This is therefore the natural outcome of these relations – this very close, historic, economic, social and political bond of cooperation that we share with the people of Tanzania, with the Republic of Tanzania and between the two governments,’ he said.
On the economic front, António Grispos explained that Mozambique has prioritised participation in international trade fairs considered strategic for consolidating trade relations and exploring new markets, citing as an example the country’s recent presence at the Algiers International Fair.
According to the Secretary of State, the choice of these events stems from their importance in strengthening economic partnerships and promoting Mozambican businesses in markets with high growth potential.
António Grispos also highlighted that Tanzania is a key trading partner for Mozambique, both due to the intense economic activity along the shared border and the presence of Tanzanian companies in sectors such as logistics and oil, whilst Mozambican entrepreneurs seek to expand their operations in that market.
In this context, he considered that Mozambique’s participation in the 50th Dar es Salaam International Fair represents an opportunity to diversify business, strengthen the private sector and contribute to the country’s goal of economic independence.
“Mozambique also has a message for Mozambican entrepreneurs who are here opening up new business fronts to diversify their portfolio. And we are here to say yes, we will therefore lend our expertise and open the doors to a new front in the portfolio of these relations.
But this front is part of our drive to achieve economic independence; here we are, leading the way with a high-profile delegation, further cemented by the President of the Republic’s participation as guest of honour.” (GI, 2026-07-02)
